Overview of PI’s Automated Silicon Photonics Processes
This video highlights the automated solution developed for silicon photonic chip production. Physik Instrumente (PI) leads the world in nano-class motion systems and photonics alignment expertise, and has the required know-how to put it all together for high throughput and yield. The automated silicon photonics processes include two nanometer-class precision alignment SpaceFABs with six degrees of freedom; integrated machine vision for "First Light" pre-alignment; integrated robotized pick and place of the components; Vision-based robot guidance and parts inspection; application-specific software with user-editable sequencing and graphical HMI; intermediate holders for photonic components; spiral search or other specific algorithms for fast fine alignment; and integrated industrial controllers and instrumentation.
