PIglide Air Bearing Technology

This video shows the principle and advantages of air bearing stages. Air bearing stages replace mechanical contact by a thin air film, avoiding wear, friction, vibration, and hysteresis effects. PI's air bearing motion control and positioning products are inherently frictionless, enabling smooth, accurate motion. Air bearing technology provides frictionless high-precision positioning and active yaw control for gantries with excellent velocity stability and accuracy.

Planar air bearing stages provide extremely straight and flat XY motion. They have reliable performance, extremely small error, and no mechanical wear. The highly constant velocity in air bearings make them ideal for scanning applications. Their zero friction allows nanometer-level positioning resolution. The ironless design provides smooth motion without cogging or attractive forces. Air bearing stages are used in wafer inspection, scribing and ultra-precision motion applications.
