UTA Researcher to Construct Power-Scalable Compact Semiconductor Laser

Conventional high-power lasers are hard to employ in portable platforms as they are bulky and require equipment. A University of Texas at Arlington Engineer is currently working to develop a semiconductor laser that will resolve those issues.

Scientists Use Ultra-Bright X-ray Pulses to Create Electromagnetic Black Hole

When scientists at the Department of Energy’s SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory focused the full intensity of the world’s most powerful X-ray laser on a small molecule, they got a surprise: A single laser pulse stripped all but a few electrons out of the molecule’s biggest atom from the inside out, leaving a void that started pulling in electrons from the rest of the molecule, like a black hole gobbling a spiraling disk of matter.

MIT Researchers Use Deep-Cooled Princeton Instruments FPA Camera To Advance In Vivo Imaging in the SWIR

Princeton Instruments, a world-renowned manufacturer of sensitive low-light imaging and spectroscopic instruments, hails the introduction and evaluation of a new class of high-quality, indium-arsenide (InAs)–based, short-wave infrared (SWIR)–emitting quantum dots for use as in vivo imaging agents by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A state-of-the-art Princeton Instruments NIRvana® camera featuring a thermoelectrically cooled indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs) focal plane array (FPA) was employed in the quantum dot evaluation.
