WAND Utilizes the DigitalPersona Technology in its POS Solutions

DigitalPersona, Inc., a leader in fingerprint identity and authentication solutions, today announced that WAND Corporation, a leading supplier of point-of-sale (POS) software for quick-service restaurants, has integrated DigitalPersona technology into their NextGen POS and Classic POS solutions. WAND's quick-service customers can now use fingerprint biometrics to boost cashier accountability and deter unauthorized manager overrides. As a result, restaurants can reduce fraud and save money.

Philips Lumileds Releases First the LM-80 Test Report Data

Philips Lumileds announced today that it is the first power LED manufacturer to publicly publish LM-80 test report data for use by luminaire manufacturers evaluating the merits of using different LEDs in their solid-state lighting solutions. The data clearly demonstrates that lumen maintenance performance exceeds ENERGY STAR® requirements by a wide margin as well as documenting lumen maintenance performance under various conditions.

Renaissance Lighting's New LED Downlight Fixtures Receive ENERGY STAR

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded the ENERGY STAR® qualification to Renaissance Lighting Inc. on seven more of its newest 4-inch all-white solid-state LED downlight fixtures. Earlier this month, 11 of the company’s all-white 7-inch downlights became the first to receive the coveted ENERGY STAR qualification. With this announcement, Renaissance Lighting now has the most ENERGY STAR qualified solid-state downlight models available in the industry.

Professors from Hebrew University Invent Novel T-Ray Designs

Yissum Research Development Company of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Ltd., the technology transfer arm of the University, today announced that Professor L.D. Shvartsman and Professor B. Laikhtman, from the Racah Institute of Physics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, have invented a novel design of TeraHertz-ray, or T-ray, lasers. Using nanostructures which are based on semiconductors with special properties, the novel device will have 400 times higher gain than THz quantum cascade lasers, the only coherent T-ray sources existing today , This invention will make T-ray based cameras and spectrometers practical, ushering a new era in security and medical imaging.

Operations in Corning's Taichung Facility Affected Due to Power Disruption
