Princeton Instruments Introduces Lightfield Software for Use with Cameras and Spectrometers

Princeton Instruments, the world leader in optical spectroscopy and CCD, EMCCD, and ICCD camera technology, is pleased to introduce LightField™, an all-new 64-bit data acquisition software platform designed for use in spectroscopy and scientific imaging applications. LightField provides comprehensive control of Princeton Instruments cameras and spectrometers via easy-to-use tools that help streamline experimental setup, data acquisition, and post processing.

“Impressive functionality and ease-of-use notwithstanding, the top priority of LightField is data integrity,” explains Ed Gooding, Ph.D., spectroscopy product manager at Princeton Instruments. “The new platform automatically saves data to disc during acquisition, applies a time stamp, and retains both raw and corrected data in the resultant file along with full experimental details.”

LightField is an excellent solution for multi-user facilities as well as single-user labs. The platform remembers each user’s hardware and software configurations and tailors its own features accordingly, displaying all relevant tools via an intuitive graphical user interface. The platform’s capabilities can be extended even further with Princeton Instruments’ patent-pending IntelliCal™ package, the most precise wavelength calibration software available.

The IntelliCal option provides up to 10x greater accuracy across the entire focal plane than competing routines. A new USB-powered Hg/Ne/Ar emission line source, available separately, works seamlessly with Princeton Instruments’ hardware and software to ensure the highest possible calibration accuracy.

LightField is ideal for applications such as optical imaging, Raman spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, surface and materials analysis, combustion studies, and astronomy. Regardless of application, LightField offers truly remarkable region of interest (ROI) capabilities. Users can create an ROI directly from a reference image, simultaneously view multiple ROI images/spectra, or view multiple instances of a single ROI at different magnifications.

The LightField software platform is fully compatible with 64-bit Microsoft® Windows® 7 and Windows Vista® operating systems. A 64-bit, event-driven API is provided for programmers.
