Research Shows 3D Printing Market Expected to Increase to $782 Million by 2013

The solid imaging process, best known as 3D printing, but also as additive manufacturing, direct digital manufacturing and solid freeform fabrication, involves the creation of a three-dimensional object by adding some sort of material a little bit at a time in successive layers to build up a full-scale model. Depending on the material used, the end-result of this process might be a model which designers can use to verify a product’s qualities before full-scale manufacturing begins, or it might be an end-use specialty component for products ranging from aircraft engines to medical implants.

The SOMATOM Definition Flash requires only a fraction of the radiation dose that systems previously required to scan even the tiniest anatomical details. Parents and pediatric patients will benefit from this technology by not having to worry about sedation that otherwise would have been required for CT imaging. Breath hold is also optional with the Flash technology where images are acquired in the blink of an eye.

Eye-Fi Now Allows Users to Upload Videos Directly to Facebook Without Computer

Among consumers who share videos online with friends and family, nearly half do so on Facebook, according to the Consumer Electronics Association's 2009 report Digital Imaging - A Focus on Sharing. So today, Eye-Fi Inc., makers of the world's first wireless memory card for digital cameras, announced that Eye-Fi users can now wirelessly upload videos from their camera directly to Facebook without even turning on a computer. And users can now alert Facebook friends via newsfeed updates anytime they upload photos or videos to more than 25 sharing sites.
