Lightwave Logic Joins University of Alabama for Development of its Materials Platform

Lightwave Logic, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: LWLG) a technology company focused on the development of the "Next Generation Electro-Optic Platform" for applications in high speed fiber-optic telecommunications and optical computing, today announced an agreement with the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa to conduct cooperative development, analytical testing, optimization, and scale-up of its proprietary materials platform.

The company believes that the agreement will help shorten the time to market for its new Polymeric Electro-Optic materials (Third Order materials where light is used to switch light), covered with its sixth patent application reported on previously.

"This agreement will accelerate our material platform development program significantly, while allowing our internal chemists and material scientists to concentrate on applications development with potential customers and partners," stated Jim Marcelli, Lightwave's CEO.

"This program affords a unique opportunity for the University of Alabama to work in close cooperation with the evolving technology needs of a dynamic and growing business," stated Dr. Arduengo, University of Alabama's Saxon Professor of Chemistry.

"Lightwave Logic can expand its research program and leverage the expertise of many of the University's faculty and students," said David Eaton, CTO of Lightwave Logic. "We are extremely pleased to have recruited a chemist of the stature of Professor Arduengo. With his guidance and active participation we will be able to explore synthetic variations to our chromophore and develop new configurations for our spacer groups."

Separately, the company noted that work is continuing on the development of its initial amplitude modulator for the optical computer market. Additional phase modulators for telecommunications applications are also progressing, and updated reports are expected within the first quarter.
