NeoPhotonics Athermal AWG Ideal for Fiber Optic Transmission Systems

NeoPhotonics today announced the release of fully athermal and fully passive Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG) MUX/DMUX modules with a 50 GHz channel spacing. These devices have up to 44 channels and incorporate the same, patented stabilization and Photonic Integration Circuit (PIC) technology as the company’s extensive line of 100GHz channel spacing athermal AWGs, which have been shipping in volume to customers around the world since 2004.

NASA Announces Research Awards to Improve Safety of Aircrafts

NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate, Aviation Safety Program, has awarded approximately $300,000 to Luna Innovations Inc., Roanoke, for its proposal, "Active All-fiber-optic Acoustic Airframe Structural Health Monitoring System." and approximately $290,000 to Collier Research Corp., Hampton, for its proposal, "Ultra Efficient Multiscale Prognostic and Diagnostics Tools for Airframe and Propulsion Structures."

Non-Invasive Imaging Technique for Diagnosing Osteoarthritis

Researchers at New York University and Tel Aviv University have developed a non-invasive imaging method that can be used to diagnose and monitor a number of diseases, including osteoarthritis and inter-vertebral disc degeneration, in their early stages.
