FMA Issues Technical Paper on 56GSa/s ADC for Advanced Telecommunications Applications

Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) today issued a technical paper entitled "The Fujitsu 56GSa/s Analog-to-Digital Converter Enables 100GbE Transport," describing the technology challenges involved in creating a long-haul 100Gbps optical transport network, and the enabling technology developed by Fujitsu for 100Gbps Ethernet and OTU-4 transport systems using coherent receivers.

IES to Build Solar Photovoltaic System for Capital Group Companies

Independent Energy Solutions, Inc. (IES), a firm based in Vista, California, has recently begun design and construction of a 1.15 MW solar photovoltaic system for The Capital Group Companies Irvine Campus. The solar system will be mounted on shade structures on the roofs of three parking garages and will provide nearly 50% of the energy used to power the campus data center and central plant equipment.

First Laser Featured in New Video Released by SPIE

The first laser itself stars in one of the latest video releases in the SPIE anniversary tribute series Advancing the Laser: 50 Years and Into the Future. The laser, invented and successfully fired for the first time on 16 May 1960 by Theodore Maiman, was reactivated by professor and inventor Dan Gelbart (Univ. of British Columbia) at a laser anniversary celebration in Vancouver, Canada, last week.
