New Market Study on PV Modules in China

Reportlinker.com announces that a new market research report is available in its catalogue: Solar Energy Products Market

INTRODUCTION

This study analyzes the market in China for solar energy products. Products covered include photovoltaic modules, both crystalline silicon and thin film types, and solar thermal collectors (e.g., water heater and other collectors). Market size is also provided for photovoltaic systems as a whole. All of the national market statistics presented exclude solar energy product supply and demand in Hong Kong and Macau, even though these special administrative regions formally became part of the People's Republic of China during the late 1990s -- Hong Kong in 1997 and Macau in 1999. Taiwan, which is economically independent from the rest of China and not under the administration of the central government, is also excluded from the scope of this study.

Historical demand figures for solar energy products are provided in current yuan for 1998, 2003 and 2008, with forecasts to 2013 and 2018. Demand data for photovoltaic modules are provided by application, including electric power generation (both off-grid and on-grid systems) and other applications such as communications and other industrial end uses, and all other markets (e.g., power supply for lamps, portable appliances and other goods). Shipments of photovoltaic modules are provided by cell technology (crystalline silicon or thin films). Demand for photovoltaic modules and thermal collectors is also provided by region (Central-North, Central-East, etc.). The term "demand" refers to "apparent consumption" and is defined as production (also referred to as "output" or "supply") plus imports minus exports. It is used interchangeably with the terms "market," "sales" and "consumption." The renminbi (or RMB) is the official currency of the People's Republic of China, and the base unit of the renminbi is the yuan. The term "yuan" is used throughout this report when referring to currency amounts. In addition, major solar energy product manufacturers active in China are identified and profiled, and the key competitive variables are discussed.

The entire report is framed within the Chinese solar energy product industry's economic and market environments, and therefore environmental variables affecting equipment production and demand in the country (such as government policies and regulations, construction outlook, electricity generation, manufacturing value added, population trends and overall economic performance) are emphasized. Solar energy product market share data by enterprise presented in the "Industry Structure" section are estimated based on consultation with multiple sources. Tabular details may not always add to totals due to rounding. Economic and demographic indicators presented in this study were obtained from The Freedonia Group Consensus Forecasts dated June 2009. A wide variety of primary and secondary sources were also used in the compilation of this report. These include Chinese government statistical agencies (principally the National Bureau of Statistics), other Chinese government agencies (including the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and the Ministry of Land and Resources), the China Solar Thermal Industry Federation, industry experts, financial sources, and solar energy product manufacturers and distributors. In addition, data and background information were obtained from industry publications, such as Solar Energy and Solar PV of China. Statistics from various sources were carefully examined during the preparation of this study. The accuracy and reliability of figures from each source were evaluated, and adjustments were made where deemed necessary. This was done in order to arrive at a consistent set of industry statistics, which are based on the best available information at the time this study was published. As a result, the data presented here may differ, sometimes substantially, from figures issued by official governmental sources.
