New Field-Installable Connectors from Belden for Easy Optical Fiber Termination

Belden has announced the new Fiberexpress Brilliance connectors. These field-installable connectors facilitate easy and quick fibre-optic terminations, without the need of any termination tools.

The Brilliance connector has an inbuilt activator tab that executes the fibre crimping and splicing in a single step. This action minimizes the number of steps by 50%, when compared to other field-installable connectors. The Fiberexpress device is available for 900um LC (OS2, OM3, OM2, and OM1).

When added with a break-out kit, the field-installable Connectors can be applied for installations of loose tube fibre. This allows the installers to obtain enhanced fibre yields and reliability similar to the tight buffered terminations. The Brilliance connector can withstand temperature from -40° C to +75° C. The company will also introduce the jacketed, APC, SC, and ST-compatible versions of the field-installable connectors in this year.

Belden’s Product Manager, Andy Kuszczak, stated that they expect their new tool to be accepted well by the contractors and distributors. The users can check the connectorisation on-site with an external laser source such as a visual fault locator, he said.
