Fellows of the Optical Society of America Awarded to Two Brookhaven Lab Scientists

Ralph James and Trevor Sears, scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory, have been named Fellows of the Optical Society of America (OSA). Limited to ten percent of the total OSA membership, Fellows of the organization have served with distinction in the advancement of optics. The two scientists will each receive a Fellow plaque and a pin at an OSA meeting in San Jose, California, in May 2008.

Telecommunications Manufacturers to Benefit from Photonic Crystals

Smaller, faster, more efficient: BASF research scientists are helping to revolutionize the future world of telecommunications – with the aid of three-dimensional photonic crystals. In a three-year project, BASF is researching into the development of these crystals together with partners such as Hanover Laser Center, Thales Aerospace Division, Photon Design Ltd., the Technical University of Denmark and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Bretagne.

Raytheon Wins U.S. Air Force Paveway Contract

With the award of $36.1 million, Raytheon Company has won the majority share of U.S. Air Force competitive contracts for Paveway(TM) II laser guided bomb components for fiscal year 2007. This is the third consecutive Air Force majority share award for Raytheon, setting a benchmark for affordability and performance in the precision-guided weapons market.
