Airbus Group Announces Completion of Flight Tests on Fiber-Optic, Laser-Based Sensor System

Airbus Group has completed successful flight tests on a fiber-optic, eye-safe, laser-based sensor system that delivers accurate airspeed information in the three axis at low and even negative airspeed. This range of capability is not possible with pitot tubes, the longstanding industry standard for airspeed sensors.

M/A-COM Technology Solutions Holdings, Inc. New SXUV300C Photodiodes from Opto Diode Detect Energy from Extreme UV Wavelengths

Opto Diode, an ITW company,introduces the SXUV300C photodiode with a large, 22.05 mm x 15.85 mm rectangular active area.These photodiodes detect energy from extremeultraviolet (UV) wavelengths of 1 nm to 1000 nm. With 331 mm2 of active area, the SXUV300C offers a sizable surface for reflective scatter measurements of high-powered UV lasers. In addition, these photodiodes provide excellent, stable responsivity even after prolonged exposure to high-powered UV radiation.

DESY Scientist Honored with Leibniz Prize for Groundbreaking Work with X-ray Free-Electron Lasers

Henry Chapman, a scientist at Germany’s DESY lab who participated in pioneering studies at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory’s Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) X-ray laser, has been awarded the Leibniz Prize. The 2.5 million euro ($3.1 million) scientific award is bestowed by a German research foundation. LCLS is a Department of Energy Office of Science User Facility.
