Philips Awarded Contract to Develop New Light Test System

Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions, the entity formed by Philips' recent acquisition of Boston's Color Kinetics Inc., has been awarded a $250,000 contract by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The project calls for Burlington-based Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions to develop a new test system to improve methods for calculating and measuring the quality of a light source.

The measurement and characterization of color-rendering light sources allows manufacturers to adopt an accurate and consistent ratings system that helps lighting professionals better evaluate and compare lights, according to company officials.

Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions was formed after Royal Philips Electronics NV acquired Color Kinetics for $791 million in August.
