Today at the International Robots and Vision Show, SCHOTT formally introduced to North American manufacturers its Surface Mounted Display (SMD) high brightness LED light line for high volume web scanning and diffuse surface inspection of paper, wood and other materials for quality and defects.
Standard lengths available range from 300mm to 3,000mm (in 150mm increments), SCHOTT's new HB LED Light Line enables printers and manufacturers to use LED technology to generate focused and homogeneous lines of light with working distances of between 50 and 100 mm. The unit's acrylic cylindrical lens is integrated into the housing, and can be adjusted to modify the working distance.
The SCHOTT LED Light Line is powerful enough to generate a high illuminance of 400 kLux at 700 mA per LED with a homogeneity of +/- 5% in the plateau level at a 50mm working distance. Intensity is controlled by means a dimmable potentiometer via constant current or via an external trigger with frequencies up to 50 kHz. The unit's acrylic cylindrical lens is integrated into the housing, and can be adjusted to modify the working distance. White and red light versions of the unit are standard colors, though others are available upon request.
SCHOTT plans to introduce Chip On Board (COB) versions of the device at the end of 2007.Longer Life, Lower Energy Consumption: SCHOTT's high brightness SMD LED Light Line offers several advantages over other types of high brightness light lines used in vision applications, including:

The MayTec® profile grooves along the sides of the SCHOTT HB LED Light Line's slim housing provide mechanical stability and make it easy for companies to integrate the unit into their manufacturing lines In addition, the system's LED board design allows manufactures to install different LED types in the unit, enabling them to custom tailor the light line to meet their homogeneity, intensity and mixed-color requirements. This design also allows companies to upgrade the unit with higher performance LEDs when they become available.
