Blackmagic Design Unveils Optical Fiber Card-Based SDI Routers

Blackmagic Design has announced its new optical fiber or BNC based SDI routers, the Universal Videohub models. The card-based SDI routers are available in two models, namely, 288 and 72, which are suitable for postproduction facilities and broadcasters.

Universal Videohub 288

The Universal Videohub enables consumers to construct their own router with the addition of interface cards for up to 288 x 288 sized customized routers. The company will display the Universal Videohub at the IBC 2010.

The Universal Videohub features power cards and redundant cross point, offering a scalable design for challenging broadcast settings. The card-based router enables the customers to choose the size of the rack frame chassis and plug in any required number of SDI interface cards.

The Universal Videohub 288 supports a maximum of 72 plug in SDI cards for SDI routing size of up to 288 x 288.  The Universal Videohub 72 supports up to 18 plug in SDI cards for a maximum of 72 x 72 SDI routing. The interface cards can either be an optical fiber, or BNC SDI. Customers can combine and match between any card type in whatever order.

The Universal Videohub features various advanced technologies, including serial and Ethernet router crosspoint control, simultaneous multi-video format support, 3 Gb/s SDI, redundant power supplies,  redundant crosspoint cards, and auto switching between 3 Gb/s, HD, and SD SDI formats.
