Vestel and Freescale to Develop LCD TV with RF Remote Control

Freescale Semiconductor, manufacturer of embedded semiconductors, has collaborated with Vestel Electronics, major television manufacturer in Europe, to design a radio frequency (RF) remote-controlled LCD television.

The RF remote control utilizes the company’s BeeStack Consumer ZigBee-RF4CE platform. Vestel and Freescale had developed the radio frequency target board to substitute the IR in the LCD television and apply the RF4CE network.

Freescale offered a complete software solution by utilizing its BeeStack Consumer protocol stack. The company also provided technical expertise for the radio frequency design. The RF design is in accordance with the ZigBee RF4CE, which offers a number of advantages such as enhanced power consumption, removal of interference that is normally caused by large screen televisions, and removal of field-of-vision and line-of-sight restrictions. Vestel will demonstrate the LCD TV and the RF4CE remote control at the Berlin Consumer Fair, which will be held from September 3 to September 8, 2010.

Vestel Group’s Deputy General Manager of Sales and Marketing, Hakan Kutlu stated that the company strives to provide high-quality consumer electronics to enhance customers’ viewing experience.
