Dr. James C. Wyant Professorship in Optics Bestowed on Distinguished Researcher, Govind Agarwal

Professor Govind Agrawal, a world leader in optical communications, has been installed as the inaugural recipient of the Dr. James C. Wyant Professorship in Optics. Agrawal joined the faculty of the Institute of Optics in 1989 and is a professor of optics and physics at the University, as well as a senior scientist at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics.

Fraunhofer HHI’s Technology Enables Use of Standard LED Lights for Data Transmission

In visible light communication, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI has set a further milestone on the way to high-speed internet from the ceiling lamp. Development of novel components for data transmission over LEDs means that significantly higher bandwidth can now be used in real-time with data throughput rates of up to 3 Gbit/s. The new components will be presented at ITU 2013.
