Telecommunication Companies Introduces First Gigabit Passive Optical Network in HK

Alcatel-Lucent and Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited (HKBN), a wholly-owned subsidiary of City Telecom (HK) Limited announced today the deployment of the first Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) in Hong Kong. The collaboration contract also includes network maintenance. Alcatel-Lucent's Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) solution will enable HKBN to deliver advanced triple play services to its subscribers and enlarge its FTTH network coverage in Hong Kong. The new network is expected to be in service in January 2008.

Indium phosphide-based optical chip and component maker CyOptics Inc of Lehigh Valley, PA, USA has acquired Inplane Photonics of South Plainfield, NJ, USA, which was founded in 2001 and designs and manufactures planar lightwave circuits (PLCs) for optical networks in both commercial and defense markets, including telecoms, LAN/WAN networks, avionics and shipboard systems.

JDSU Announced Delivery of Pump Laser to Support Increasing Network Traffic Demands

JDSU today announced that it has delivered its 400,000th 980 nanometer (nm) amplifier pump laser based on its planar platform. The recipient of the milestone shipment, Wuxi Zhongxing Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. (WXZTE), located in Wuxi, China, has purchased more than 30,000 980nm pump lasers from JDSU over the past three years.
