Veeco Announced the Purchase of Two MOCVD Systems by Chinese OptoElectronics Manufacturer

Veeco Instruments Inc., announced today that two recently purchased TurboDisc(R) E450(TM) As/P Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) Systems are being used by Xiamen Sanan OptoElectronics of Xiamen, China to expand their capacity of red, yellow and orange (ROY) high brightness light emitting diodes (HB-LEDs).

United Solar Ovonic Signed Agreement to Supply Photovoltaic Laminates

United Solar Ovonic LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices, Inc., announced today that it has signed a multi-year supply agreement with Enfinity Management BVBA for 21.15 MW of UNI-SOLAR(R) thin-film photovoltaic (PV) laminates. Under the agreement, United Solar will supply Enfinity 1.15MW in calendar year 2007 and 10MW in each of the calendar years 2008 and 2009. Enfinity intends to use the UNI-SOLAR(R) products for roof-top installations in Europe.

NCAR Researchers Successfully Launched Solar Telescope to an Altitude of 120,000 Feet

In a landmark test flight, the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and a team of research partners this month successfully launched a solar telescope to an altitude of 120,000 feet, borne by a balloon larger than a Boeing 747 jumbo jet. The test clears the way for long-duration polar balloon flights beginning in 2009 that will capture unprecedented details of the Sun's surface.
