CyrusOne Customers Now Get Access to Telia Carrier’s 100G Connectivity Options

Telia Carrier today announced a strategic alliance with CyrusOne, one of the largest carrier-neutral data center providers in the United States. The agreement provides CyrusOne’s enterprise customers with access to Telia Carrier’s top-two rated global IP network AS1299, as well as total integration into CyrusOne’s National IX platform for connectivity and access to cloud services.

Molex Develops Optical Bench to Test, Validate Optical Fibers Used in Astronomy Applications

Molex has developed a Polymicro Technologies™ optical bench to test and validate optical fibers used in astronomy applications. The optical bench measures focal ratio degradation (FRD) in specific optical fiber samples to determine if the fibers are appropriate for astronomy applications.

Tokyo Institute of Technology research: Shedding light on phototactic behavior of green algae

Scientists at Tokyo Institute of Technology and colleagues report that optical shielding by the eyespot pigments in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, a unicellular green alga, determines the direction of their movement relative to light sources, and that the cell body behaves as a convex lens to focus and condense incident light.

ESO’s latest facility upgrade features four new TOPTICA guide star lasers on Cerro Paranal

On April 26th, the impressive Four-Laser Guide Star Facility (4LGSF) was fully operational for the first time at the European Southern Observatory’s (ESO) Very Large Telescope (VLT) of the Paranal Observatory in Chile. During the preceding verification phase, a team of TOPTICA and ESO engineers successfully completed the required system tests.
