StereoVision Imaging Resells 2D/3D Switchable Displays

StereoVision Imaging (SVI), a market leader in 3D imaging technology, today announced that they will resell Zalman's market leading 2D/3D switchable displays as a complement to its patented 3D digital image viewer/capturing device, the 3D VuCAM(TM). These 19-inch and 22-inch displays integrate a 3D phase difference film allowing for 3D viewing with the included circular polarizer eyewear.

Ultrafast Movement of Electrons in a Crystal

The dashing start of electrons in a crystal does not remain without consequences for their further fate. This is reported by the Berlin researchers Peter Gaal, Wilhelm Kuehn, Klaus Reimann, Michael Woerner, and Thomas Elsaesser of the Max-Born Institute and Rudolf Hey of the Paul Drude Institute in the latest issue of the magazine Nature (Vol. 450, Page 1210).

Lockheed Martin Delivers Atmospheric Imaging Assembly to NASA

The Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA), a suite of four telescopes for NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), has been delivered to the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in preparation for a launch of SDO no earlier than December 2008. The AIA was designed and built at the Solar and Astrophysics Laboratory of the Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Palo Alto.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has granted "Critical Decision 2" (CD-2) status to the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II). This decision approves the facility's performance baseline based on preliminary design, signifying a major step forward in the process to make this state-of-the-art research complex a reality.

Lack of Light Causes Depression

People troubled by depression usually experience their dark moods in an on-again, off-again fashion. In that respect, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) differs only in that the oscillations follow a seasonal schedule, with the depression usually starting in the fall and lasting through the spring. Lack of light is often blamed for SAD, but just how darker days cause depression in SAD sufferers is still in question, reports the January 2008 issue of the Harvard Health Letter.

The Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) F-18 Block 5D-3 spacecraft, built under contract for the U.S. Air Force by Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, Sunnyvale, Calif., has been delivered to Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., in preparation for a July 2008 launch.

GeoEye Secures Insurance for IKONOS Satellite

GeoEye, Inc. , a premier provider of satellite, aerial and geospatial information, announced today that it has secured insurance in the amount of $20 million on its IKONOS satellite for 2008 with terms comparable to those it had for 2007. This was facilitated by a new analysis, performed by Lockheed Martin Corporation, on the life expectancy of its IKONOS high-resolution Earth-imaging satellite. The company now estimates IKONOS may continue to meet mission requirements into the next decade.
