New Center will Pursue Innovations in Smart Lighting

The National Science Foundation (NSF) announces the establishment of five new NSF Engineering Research Centers (ERCs) for the development of interdisciplinary research and education programs in partnership with industry. The NSF ERCs share the goal of advancing knowledge, technology, and innovations that address significant societal problems and provide the workforce and technical foundation for economic competitiveness. NSF will invest approximately $92.5 million in the centers over the next five years.

Solar Thin Films to Acquire BudaSolar Technologies

Solar Thin Films, Inc., a developer, manufacturer and marketer of manufacturing equipment for the production of "thin-film" amorphous silicon photovoltaic modules, has, through Kraft Elektronikai Zrt ("Kraft"), its wholly-owned main operating subsidiary, signed a definitive stock exchange agreement to acquire BudaSolar Technologies Co. Ltd. ("BudaSolar"). BudaSolar, headquartered in Budapest, Hungary, designs and markets turnkey systems for the production of "thin-film" amorphous silicon solar modules.

IMEC to Collaborate on Green LED Manufacturing Technology

IMEC, Europe's leading independent nanoelectronics research institute, and Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corp. (TNSC), a total solution provider in the compound semiconductor field, today announce that they have signed an agreement to jointly develop manufacturing technology for high efficiency LED (light-emitting diode) devices. The agreement marks the first time Taiyo Nippon Sanso collaborates with an advanced research center based in Europe.
