Researchers Develop New Way To Split Water Into Hydrogen And Oxygen

The design of efficient systems for splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen, driven by sunlight is among the most important challenges facing science today, underpinning the long term potential of hydrogen as a clean, sustainable fuel. But man-made systems that exist today are very inefficient and often require additional use of sacrificial chemical agents. In this context, it is important to establish new mechanisms by which water splitting can take place.

Researchers Discover Porous Polymeric Materials Increasing Efficiency of Traditional Photocatalysts in Cancer Treatment

Researchers at the Universitat Jaume I (UJI) in Castellón have found porous polymeric materials that increase the efficiency of traditional photocatalysts in the treatment of cancer. Photodynamic therapy consists of introducing photocatalysts into tumour cells in such a way that when radiation (in the form of light) is applied, the photocatalysts destroy these cells as a result of the production of a reactive agent known as singlet oxygen.
