LaserMotive Announces New Sponsors for 2010 Power Beaming Competition

LaserMotive announced new sponsors for its participation in the 2010 Centennial Challenge Power Beaming Competition. The company, which specializes in the laser power beam technology, had won the 2009 Power Beaming Competition and received a cash prize of about $1 million. LaserMotive became the first company to win this competition.

The sponsors include Zaber Technologies, Ophir Spiricon and National Instruments. Zaber develops computer-controlled motors, mirror mounts, linear actuators and other devices, Ophir produces laser measurement equipment and infrared (IR) optical components and National Instruments develops virtual instrumentation for the automation and measurement industries. These organizations join LaserMotive’s list of existing sponsors such as DILAS and Boeing.

LaserMotive’s Co-Founder and President, Tom Nugent, stated that the company is  preparing for the next round of competition and the sponsorship will assist their entry in the event. He informed that the laser beam technology provides significant benefits for a number of industries ranging from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to alternative energy sector.

In May 21010, the company had announced a blueprint plan to develop an endless power system for UAVs. This technology was the winning entry in the 2009 competition.
