Momentive Performance Materials, a leading manufacturer of custom heat-cured elastomers, liquid silicone rubber (LSR) and RTV adhesives, today announced an expansion of its InvisiSil LED (light emitting diode) encapsulants and Glob Top encapsulants portfolios to support the increasing need for advanced silicone technologies in LED packaging.
To facilitate enhanced transmission of light emitted from LEDs, InvisiSil LED encapsulants deliver high levels of optical efficiencies and a high-refractive index. In addition, InvisiSil LED encapsulants provide long-term durability by protecting against the yellowing and delamination that is typical of conventional epoxy-based materials. The InvisiSil portfolio includes the IVS4632, which offers high hardness and excellent light transmittance over a wide range of wavelengths.
New Glob Top encapsulant materials from Momentive provide consistent dispensing performance and material flow to form the dome shape for COB (chip on board) encapsulation. Component designers with chip-mounting and wire-bonding capabilities can benefit from the process simplicity enabled by Momentive Glob Top encapsulants.
Momentive also is offering a new series of silicone lens fabrication materials that are excellent candidates for liquid injection molding processes. For example, the recently launched IVSM4500 delivers high transparency, mechanical strength and can be molded using a variety of techniques.

For instance, Momentive is cooperating with TridonicAtco Optoelectronics GmbH to develop a comprehensive range of LED lighting solutions using Momentive's silicone materials. Based in Austria, TridonicAtco Optoelectronics is part of the Zumtobel group, a world leader in the lighting industry.
