New BridgeX BX5020 Gateway System Now Available in 1 RU Form Factor

Mellanox® Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ:MLNX) (TASE:MLNX), a leading supplier of high-performance, end-to-end connectivity solutions for data center servers and storage systems, today announced availability of the BridgeX BX5020, the industry’s highest performing InfiniBand to Ethernet and/or Fibre Channel gateway system in a 1 RU (rack unit) form factor.

Nominated as a Finalist for the ‘Best of Interop’ award in the data center server and storage category, the BX5020 in conjunction with ConnectX®-2 Adapters enables Enterprise Data Centers, Cloud and High Performance Computing server clusters to share the same fabric for computing, networking and storage traffic. Mellanox 40Gb/s InfiniBand delivers the performance, economic and efficiency benefits of running over the industry’s highest bandwidth, lowest-latency interconnect. At the same time, server applications that rely on familiar Ethernet and Fibre Channel interfaces can transparently operate and access existing LAN and SAN infrastructures. Performance, complexity and economics are improved dramatically while standard Ethernet and Fibre Channel management practices and investments are preserved.

The growing demand for increased performance in the data center is driving the adoption of multi-core processors in servers and the need to maximize the use of infrastructure is driving the adoption of server virtualization and fabric convergence. Supporting these trends requires higher I/O bandwidth between servers and to LAN and SAN infrastructures. The BX5020 enables InfiniBand’s inherent bandwidth and latency performance, QoS, and scalability benefits to transparently apply to Ethernet and Fibre Channel deployments, providing significantly improved return-on-investment.

“Data center costs related to power, space and management need to be conserved without compromising the performance and scalability needed for sustainable business growth,” said Sanjay Manney, director of product marketing at Mellanox Technologies. “Mellanox’s BridgeX BX5020 system transforms the performance and economic equation in the data center by delivering the highest port density at the lowest cost, power and smallest form factor compared to other converged I/O gateway solutions available today.”

The BridgeX BX5020 converged I/O solution offers the following benefits:

  • Highest density converged gateway in 1RU form factor
  • Four 40Gb/s InfiniBand server switch facing ports
  • Up to 12 10GigE LAN and iSCSI SAN facing ports
  • Up to 16 1/2/4/8Gb/s Fibre Channel SAN facing ports
  • A flexible mix of Ethernet and Fibre Channel ports
  • Ultra low-latency gateway system with less than 200ns latency between InfiniBand and Ethernet or Fibre Channel
  • Support for virtual I/O and a large number of virtual machines through instantiation of up to 8000 virtual NICs and HBAs
  • Built-in CPU running a feature-rich BridgeX management software that supports
  • System chassis management – configuration, monitoring, and reporting
  • vNIC/vHBA creation, management and deletion, flexible association to LAN and SAN ports in the gateway system
  • Web GUI and CLI interfaces
