ADVA Optical Networking today announced its membership in the FTTH Council Europe. The council works to accelerate Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) adoption by informing European governments, regulators, operators, utility companies, investors and broadband end users on the benefits of high-speed fiber connectivity to European households.
ADVA Optical Networking’s Jörg-Peter Elbers, vice president, research & development advanced technology, will be among the speakers at the EPIC symposium, which is hosted at the FTTH Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, on Feb. 24 and 25. Elbers will speak as part of the FTTH Network Technologies session on Feb. 24. His presentation will be held from 2.30-2.55 p.m. and will address WDM-PON technologies for FTTH access.
“As an industry organization, the work of the FTTH Council Europe is based on the support of its members. We therefore welcome ADVA Optical Networking as a new member of our organization,” said Hartwig Tauber, director general of the FTTH Council Europe. “Our goals are, by 2012, to have encouraged the deployment of FTTH connectivity to at least one percent of households in at least 15 of the countries served by the council and to at least 10 percent of households in eight of those countries. This can happen only with widespread deployment of high-speed, next-generation fiber access networks.”
The FTTH Council Europe’s more than 130 member companies strive to illuminate FTTH’s far-reaching benefits for the environment, society and economy. At its Lisbon conference, for example, the council will explore both FTTH-enhanced entertainment services (online gaming, broadcast IPTV, high-definition video-on-demand, etc.) and business applications that would enable more European citizens to work from home, thus reducing time spent commuting and contributing to a healthier environment.
