DALSA Unveils Piranha HS 12k 90 kHz Camera

DALSA Corporation (TSX: DSA), a global leader in machine vision technology, today introduced the Piranha™ HS 12k 90 kHz camera. This new high-speed model features 12k resolution with a 5.2 um pixel size, and breakthrough speeds of 90 kHz line rate or 1.2 gigapixels/second.

The Piranha HS 12k delivers unprecedented levels of imaging performance

This new camera is being showcased at ’09 ITE, the International Technical Exhibition on Image Technology and Equipment, December 2-4, 2009 at Pacifico Yokohama in Yokohama, Japan in booth # 167.

With DALSA’s newly developed HSLink interface, the Piranha HS 12k camera delivers unprecedented speeds, high resolution and compact design. The HSLink interface is a new machine vision connectivity interface pioneered by DALSA. The interface has taken the key strengths of Camera Link®, and added new features and functions. HSLink delivers scalable bandwidth in 300 megabyte/second steps, from 300 to 6000 megabytes/second, while using globally available, off-the-shelf components. A white paper detailing the HSLink interface is now available for download.

The Piranha HS 12k is supported by DALSA’s new Xcelera-HS PX 8 frame grabber. The Xcelera-HS PX 8 also leverages DALSA new HSLink interface to deliver unprecedented image acquisition bandwidth of 1.8 gigabytes/second and host transfer bandwidth of 2 gigabytes/second over multiple-lane PCI Express implementations.

The Piranha HS 12K camera features DALSA’s latest cutting-edge time delay and integration, or TDI, technology – an enabler for low light imaging which reduces operating costs and environmental impacts. It has 256 selectable TDI stages with responsivity of 3450DN/nj/cm2. All the high performance comes from a compact mechanical body of 180 x 90 x 92.5mm. With advanced features such as bi-directionality, anti-blooming and programmability, the HS 12k camera is ideally suited for flat-panel display, electronics and PCB, and solar cell inspection, and other high speed web applications.

“DALSA continues to lead the high speed imaging market by delivering breakthrough TDI technology,” said DALSA Senior Product Manager Xing-Fei He. “With the new Piranha HS 12k camera, our OEM customers will be able to design and deliver even higher system performance and throughput. We have seen increasing demands beyond current Camera Link bandwidth and the HSLink provides an ideal solution for the next generation data connectivity.”

Software Advantage
All Piranha cameras are supported by DALSA’s Sapera™ Essential software package. Sapera Essential is a cost-effective machine vision software toolkit that bundles board level acquisition and control with advanced image processing capability. The Sapera Essential standard processing tool run-time license is offered at no additional charge when combined with DALSA frame grabbers. This software run-time license includes access to over 400 image processing functions, area-based (normalized correlation based) template matching tool, blob analysis and lens correction tool. (Some conditions and limitations apply, contact DALSA sales for details).
