AUO Leads the Trend in Displays

AU Optronics Corp. will exhibit the latest technologies of TFT-LCDs and a wide array of new products from October 29 to October 31 in FPD International 2008 in Yokohama, Japan, the largest TFT-LCD panel exhibition in the world. AUO will unveil several new technologies, including the world's first image and fingerprint scanning technology on mobile displays, the world's thinnest 1.9-inch panel for mobile phone, 46-inch "Eco Plus" Full HD TV green panels with a weight under 6.9 kg, and a new series of green panels from 8.9-inch to 46-inch, featuring slim design and power-saving functions. Dr. LJ Chen, AUO's President and COO, will deliver a keynote speech on the topic of "Connecting to the Future Lifestyle with Innovations" in FPD Summit on October 29.

The theme of AUO s exhibition this year is "Green Innovation." AUO s goal is to bring more comfortable and convenient digital lifestyles to consumers by leveraging AUO s green technology innovations. The exhibition area is divided into several sections, including PID applications, green panels, advanced technology, display of various applications, and leading technologies for small- and medium-sized panels.

PID Section - Showcasing the 52-inch and 65-inch Full HD portrait panels

AUO will demonstrate its 52-inch and 65-inch Full HD portrait panels which, with slim bezel design and high brightness at 700 nits, are the optimum choice for PIDs. With its portrait backlight mode design, the tube life of 65-inch portrait panels can be extended substantially.

LCD TV Application Section - Showcasing Full HD 120Hz high contrast ratio LCD TV panels ranging from 42" to 65"

AUO will exhibit the full range of its 42-inch to 65-inch Full HD LCD TV products family with built-in 120Hz high contrast ratio technology. This technology helps deal with motion blur problems efficiently. In addition, LCD TVs from 42-inch to 52-inch all feature AMVA 3 technology, with high contrast ratio up to 5000:1.

Information Display Application Product Section - full series of 16:9 panels with LED backlight

AUO is exhibiting a series of 18.5-inch to 24-inch super slim desktop display panels with 16:9 wide screen and LED backlight, and a series of 8.9- inch to 17.3-inch LED notebook panels with 16:9 wide screens, which can provide greater digital multi-media functions with slim, power-saving features. With a thickness of 5.2 mm and a weight of 180g, both 8.9-inch and 10.1-inch panels for mini notebooks are perfect for those seeking trendy, super slim designs.

In terms of advanced technology, AUO will be exhibiting its 46-inch "Eco Plus" Full HD green TV panels. These panels can reduce the overall weight by over 30%, and thickness by over 30%, and bring power savings of over 30%. The package efficiency also rises by 66% due to the reduction of packaging space and delivery weight. AUO is also showcasing its 46-inch Full HD LED panels with local dimming technology that can control 1296 areas, the world's first(*) 24-inch 2D/3D mix mode display, the world's first(*) 2.8-inch image/ fingerprint scanning technology on QVGA panels for mobile devices, and the world's thinnest(*) 1.9-inch LCD for mobile devices with the thickness of merely 0.56mm.
