Complicated Structure Fibre Splicing

When splicing optical fibre with a more complicated structure like Polarisation Maintaining (PM), in its many forms, or multicore fibre, the alignment of the cross-sectional geometry is paramount to ensure low loss and the maintenance of optical characteristics. This can also be important for small core fibres, where core concentricity can become a magnified challenge to align.

LASER COMPONENTS is now able to offer the Furukawa S185 series splicers, which includes the S185EDV model.

This allows the user to utilise the end-view function of the splicer and overlay the images of the two fibre end-faces, with separate colours, to supply excellent contrast of the fibre alignment. This alignment can then be manually manipulated to further improve the already highly accurate automatic geometric alignment for optimal splicing performance.
