Lumileds Revolutionizes Human-Centric Lighting with LUXEON Fusion Technology

Lumileds, a worldwide leader in ground-breaking lighting solutions, has introduced LUXEON Fusion, an innovative platform technology that supplies unparalleled white color selection while simplifying fixture manufacturing. Merging the needs of a number of tuning technologies, such as dim to warm and dynamic tuning for human-centric lighting, LUXEON Fusion addresses color temperatures from 1,800 K to 10,000 K with high color-rendering index (CRI) (>90 more than 95% of range) and high color fidelity.

Customers who formerly had to depend on disparate solutions to attain the preferred results can currently leverage the LUXEON Fusion platform technology which unites white SKU reduction, dim to warm capability, color selection, and dynamically tunable white lighting—all engineered for mass adoption, in a single solution.

LUXEON Fusion is really designed to open up color tuning for mass adoption in all indoor lighting environments because it offers superior dim-to-warm consistency down to 1,800 K, white light color choice, high efficiencies and consistent light output over dynamic tuning ranges.

Human-Centric Lighting Applications for LUXEON Fusion

LUXEON Fusion facilitates the subsequent step in human-centric lighting. When lighting hospitals, offices, restaurants, or retail venues, designers frequently desire to modify color temperature on-site or program it to regulate light levels throughout the day to complement a varying ambient environment. Available on the Lumileds Matrix Platform, which custom constructs LUXEON LEDs and Advanced Technologies on substrates to match manufacturers’ precise requirements, LUXEON Fusion is easily combined with a range of wired and wireless (for example, Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI), Digital Multiplex (DMX), Wi-Fi) methods for on-demand tuning.

White light tuning in the past was limited and could not, for instance, tune along the blackbody curve or just below the blackbody curve, a range that enables vivid color depiction.

Programming in such ranges is supported by LUXEON Fusion.

The first execution of LUXEON Fusion includes modules for spotlights, downlights, troffers, and linear applications—realizing system efficacy and color stability matching that of LUXEON LEDs.

We boosted LED utilization by 25 to 100 percent over standard two-LED or three-LED solutions, and achieve consistent light output over the tuning range—something customers value and other color tuning systems struggled to deliver.

Greg Tashjian, Senior Director of R&D, Lumileds

A major benefit to the LUXEON Fusion is more efficient fixture development. For example, a fixture that is provided with CCTs of 2700 K, 3500 K, and 5000 K color temperatures, each with particular light engines and SKUs can currently utilize a single engine for all the fixtures and correlated color temperature (CCT) can be fixed later—even following fixture installation. Another use includes high-impact retail settings, where companies choose a signature CCT and brand all stores globally with one color tone.
