Hermetically Sealed SSRD Memory Connector Developed for Datakey Portable Memory Devices

ATEK Access Technologies today announced that Sigma Space Corporation has developed the SSRD memory connector, the first hermetically sealed receptacle for Datakey portable memory devices. The SSRD utilizes a high cycle life Datakey receptacle mounted inside a MIL-SPEC circular metal shell.

The SSRD connector, along with a RUGGEDrive™ portable memory device, provides a robust removable memory solution for high shock and vibration environments such as airborne instruments and in military vehicles.

“Sigma Space needed a military connector that was protected from the elements and could function under the shock, vibration, EMI and low-pressure environments found in airborne platforms at 60,000 feet,” said Roman Machan, Chief Technology Officer at Sigma Space. “ATEK was instrumental in allowing us to develop a removable memory solution that meets the extreme demands of high-altitude airborne instruments. We were able to specifically address vibration by physically constraining the RUGGEDrive™ memory token within the sealed connector enclosure.”

The SSRD connector is specifically designed for use with Datakey RUGGEDrive™ and Serial Memory extended length memory tokens. When the connector’s cap is fully seated, it provides a slight pressure against the inserted token keeping it fully seated even in high-vibration environments.

Sigma Space will use the SSRD connector and the Datakey RUGGEDrive memory token for the logging of instrumentation data onboard NASA high-altitude research aircraft.
