Conference of Lasers and Electro-Optic/ Pacific Rim to be Held 24–28, August 2015 in South Korea

Serving as the preeminent forum in Asia for lasers and electro-optics disciplines ranging from laser physics to system engineering and applications, the 2015 Conference of Lasers and Electro-Optic (CLEO)/ Pacific Rim will be held from 24-28 August 2015, in Busan, South Korea.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from a host of recognized leaders and experts in the field of optics during plenary sessions, short courses, technical sessions and a special International Year of Light (IYL) program. The CLEO/ Pacific Rim 2015 exhibition provides companies the opportunity to promote products and services directly to attendees.

International Year of Light Special Program

CLEO/Pacific Rim will feature a special International Year of Light (IYL) program, including highly-lauded experts in the field of lasers and electro-optics, and a reception sponsored by The Optical Society (OSA) and the CLEO/Pacific Rim Organizing Committee. The program is part of the larger global IYL initiative highlighting the importance of light and optical technologies to people around the world.

“It’s a great honor to speak at the International Year of Light program during CLEO/Pacific Rim,” said Dr. Hiroshi Amano, 2014 Nobel Prize Winner in Physics, for his work in LED and solid state lighting. “Electro-optics is becoming an increasingly important part of the overall world economy, both in giving underserved areas access to reliable electricity and to continue making current power usage more environmentally friendly. I’m looking forward to speaking with conference attendees, and with the other speakers at the program.”

Future CLEO/Pacific Rim Meetings

In 2015, the CLEO/Pacific Rim Steering Committee voted to move the conference to even years beginning in 2018. The Steering Committee is excited to bring the conference to new locations for 2017 and 2018. The 2017 conference will be held 31 July – 4 August at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in the Republic of Singapore and will be hosted by Nanyang Technological University. Optoelectronics & Communication Conference (OECC) and Photonics Global Conference (PGC) will be co-located with CLEO/Pacific Rim 2017.

In 2018, the conference will be held in Hong Kong and hosted by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
