Lightest and Smallest 40G Testers on the Market

JDSU today introduced the T-BERD/MTS-8000 40G Transport module, an easy-to-use 40G field installation and maintenance tester. One of the lightest and smallest 40G testers on the market, the 40G Transport module weighs less than 18 lbs. when fully equipped for 40G and has been demonstrated at multiple Tier 1 carriers worldwide.

With the addition of the 40G Transport module, the award-winning T-BERD/MTS-8000 platform provides the market's most complete service installation and maintenance test solution by addressing all fiber characterization, optical spectrum analysis, service verification, and troubleshooting needs, from 1.5M up to 40G, in one platform. The 40G Transport module also includes all T-BERD/MTS-8000 mainframe hallmarks, including a large, integrated touch screen and easy-to-use GUI in a rugged, compact and scalable form factor, making the T-BERD/MTS platform the industry's preferred solution.

"JDSU is a pioneer in 40G test, introducing its first 40G solutions in 2002," said Dave Holly, senior vice president of JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "With the introduction of a new 40G field installation and maintenance solution, JDSU continues to lead the industry as high-capacity network expansion continues and our customers' requirements evolve."

The flexible and future-proof design of the T-BERD/MTS-8000 40G Transport module provides in-depth, current 40G testing needs (OC-768/STM-256) while also adapting to new developments in the market (like changing line coding or line speeds). Powerful features of the unit include ITU-T and GR-253 compliant optics with optical power measurement and frequency offset adjustment and measurement as well as multiple mappings to structure the 40G pipe, overhead generation and analysis, extensive error and alarm generation and analysis, various timing modes, Round Trip Delay (RTD) measurements and performance according to G.826 and G828.

JDSU provides one of the industry's most complete 40G test portfolios, including the ONT and TestPoint platforms for lab and production environments. JDSU has shipped the ONT 40G for over two years and the TestPoint 40G for almost one year. Both testers are used in lab environments and were involved in some of the industry's first 40G field turn-ups and the ONT was the industry's first all-in-one tester for 40/43G, including jitter and wander.

JDSU also provides reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers (ROADMs), optical amplifiers, modulators and transponders that are 40G capable for dense wavelength division multiplexer (DWDM) networks. Most recently, Mintera Corporation and JDSU jointly developed a 40G DWDM transponder which incorporates Adaptive-Differential Phase Shift Keying (ADPSK) technology. It was introduced to the market with the industry's first commercial shipment in December 2007.
