Elbit Systems of America Collaborates with Laser Light Engines to Commercialize Laser-Based Digital Projection

Elbit Systems of America, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Elbit Systems, Ltd., has contracted with Laser Light Engines, Inc. (LLE), the leader in laser illumination for high brightness digital projection, to manufacture the LLE DSG-265™, a high-powered, solid state de-speckled GREEN laser module that is revolutionizing the way movies are watched.

LLE's "universal" architecture enable its systems to plug and play with new projection systems or can upgrade tens of thousands of existing installations, enabling both companies to explore an exciting new marketing opportunity.

"This partnership with a world-class laser manufacturer is a major step forward in the commercialization of laser-based digital projection," said Bill Beck , founder and EVP of Business Development at Laser Light Engines. "LLE's laser engines are rapidly gaining acceptance in the projection industry because of the outstanding image quality and lower cost of ownership our technology enables. Now, with ESA's high-volume, precision manufacturing capabilities supporting us, we are well positioned to meet the growing demand for laser illumination systems for 2D and 3D Digital Cinema, digital signage, and other laser illumination applications worldwide."

Until now, illumination for digital projectors has been delivered by fifty year-old technology: high pressure Xenon gas discharge lamps that are costly to use, expensive to replace, and do not provide consistent, controllable light. The new LLE DSG-265 laser will be incorporated into a complete red/green/blue (RGB) laser illumination system that replaces traditional high pressure gas discharge lamps with a solid-state, digitally controllable light source, capable of producing dramatically brighter and sharper images, with less energy use and a much lower total cost of ownership (TCO). The DSG-265's unique design and construction provide fiber-delivered, high-power, de-speckled green light output from a compact integrated module.

"We are excited to be partnering with LLE to develop the manufacturing process for this efficient, solid state laser," stated Raanan Horowitz , President and CEO of Elbit Systems of America. "Being on the cutting-edge of this new laser technology offers a robust opportunity for both companies. With over 32 years of experience in manufacturing innovative lasers for defense and commercial customers, we stand ready to support LLE's manufacturing, technical, and logistic needs."
