The 10X10 MSA, a group specializing in technology development for 100 Gb/s client interfaces, has announced the availability of 100 Gb/s module specification.
The 2 km optical specification was standardized by the 10X10 MSA in record time. This specification would accelerate the deployment of low-cost and multi-sourced 100 Gb/s interfaces that include OTU4 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet. The modules are capable of mapping 10 electrical lanes at 10 Gb/s on 10 lasers and are designed according to the 10X10 specification. They operate on a Single Mode Fiber and facilitate a reach of 2 km.
The new standard will make 100 G transmission rates cost-effective and reduce the cost of 100 Gb/s interfaces. The 10X10 MSA is planning new projects – one aims to extend the reach to 10 km and another to develop a high density form factor.
