Masdar, U.S. DOE Test Advanced Solar Photovoltaic Coating Technologies

Masdar and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) have declared that they will team up to examine the performance of advanced solar photovoltaic (PV) modules to prevent cementation, dry dust adhesion and moisture issues that are typically encountered by PV module manufacturers. In April 2010, Masdar and  DOE signed a MoU to promote sustainable energy technologies.

The specially-coated PV modules were manufactured by the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), which  performs R&D, development, marketing and installation of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy, Daniel B. Poneman stated that the test demonstrates the commitment of  UAE and the U.S. towards clean and sustainable energy solutions, and Masdar’s test field supports the creation of advanced technologies, which could overcome the country’s energy problems and help in economic growth.

Masdar’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Al Jaber stated that the renewable energy R&D will benefit the U.S., UAE as well as the global nations towards sustainable energy solutions.

Both UAE and the U.S. are working with  Advanced Research Projects Agency—Energy (ARPA-E) to conduct technical and scientific data exchange in buildings technology, investment-oriented analysis and carbon capture and sequestration.
