Supplier of precision optics and optical components, Zygo has signed a contract with ASML to procure all the assets of ASML’s California facility, Richmond. The acquisition will enable Zygo to extend its optical manufacturing expertise with diamond turning and aspheric lens manufacturing assets, and optical polishing and machining devices.
Zygo anticipates hiring major employees of the Richmond facility and will run the business in a 60,000 sq-ft plant in Richmond. The Richmond plant will offer greater synergistic capabilities that can instantly resolve new applications in the life-sciences, defense and semiconductor markets. The acquisition is expected to be completed by November 2010.
Zygo's President of the Optical Systems Division, John Stack stated that the Richmond plant manufactures sophisticated optical components and the acquisition will allow the company to meet the requirements of demanding optical applications.
