GigOptix Receives Funding for On-Chip Integrated Photonic Polymer Transceiver Program

Provider of electro-optic and electronic components, GigOptix has announced the sustained federal support for its On-Chip Integrated Photonic Polymer Transceiver program.

Patty Murray, U.S. Senator, an advocate for Washington businesses, and a senior member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, helped GigOptix to obtain the 2011 Department of Defense Appropriations bill.

The Senate Appropriations Committee passed this appropriation bill, however, the bill has to get approval from the United States Senate. The final legislation of the bill has to be approved by the Congress, and then signed by the President.

The funding will enable GigOptix to make its Thin Film Polymer on Silicon modulators to fulfill the military standards of temperature stability. The company will commence the testing and designing of the integrated driver’s second iteration, using the polymer optical modulator on a BiCMOS wafer. GigOptix will also complete integrating the receiver side on individual chips for the 400Gbps optical communication systems.

The federal support will speed up the development of compact, faster energy saving communications and power systems. These systems will offer precise data for the military to meet the developments of the communications technology.
