Leds America announced its new 14.6W Led-O T8 tube that can be replaced for the usual fluorescent tubes in existing fixtures, when the ballast is removed. The new Led-O T8 tube produces no UV light and operates under-40 degree temperature.
The Led-O is free of mercury or other hazardous vapors. It is unbreakable, and recyclable. The T8 tube is offered with color temperatures of 6000K, 4000k, and 3000K for high and normal ceiling versions. The voltage range of the tube is 85 - 277V.
Leds America has planned to start the manufacturing of the Led-O tubes in the United States within 2010. Leds America’s CEO, Joel Westermarck, stated that the ROI will be very much higher than the tube’s lifetime. Based on the tube’s cost per KWH, the payback time will be from one to three years. He added that the T8 light tube breaks the 100Lm/W barrier, by offering 12% more brightness in the initial 1000 hrs. The LM-80 and Lighting Facts label from the Department of Energy supports this claim, Westermarck said.
