Conference to Profile Advances in Optics for Biotechnology, Medicine and Surgery

The primary goal of this conference is to bring together scientists, engineers, and clinicians interested in the application of optics to biotechnology, medicine, and surgery.

In addition to formal presentations, this conference is intended to provide a forum for informal discussions and social interaction. In 2007 we aim to emphasize the medical applications of optics, with a focus on in vivo and molecular imaging, and to encourage participation by clinicians. The conference will be a continuation of meetings on this topic sponsored by Engineering Conferences International. This is the tenth conference in this series.

In each of the sessions, the invited speakers will define the current state of the art and suggest new and promising research directions. There will be extensive formal discussion periods in each session and informal discussions will be encouraged.

Sessions will include:

  • Intrinsic contrast microscopy;
  • Comprehensive, large field microscopy for basic research and clinical applications;
  • Molecular probes;
  • Intravital microscopy;
  • Imaging metabolic pathways;
  • Microendoscopy;
  • Tissue spectroscopy;
  • Molecular diffuse optical tomography and mesoscopic imaging;
  • Optical therapy and monitoring treatment response by optical methods;
  • Molecular imaging with scattered light;

Following the conference, invited speakers and poster presenters will be invited to submit their work to a special issue of the Journal of Biomedical Optics.
