The anisotropy imaging technique is now available for the serial equipment of the LSM 710 laser scanning microscope from Carl Zeiss. It supplements the special imaging techniques such as RICS (Raster Image Correlation Spectroscopy) and FCS (Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy) already possible with the LSM 710.

Carl Zeiss Installs 1,500th GEMINI SEM at Dresden University of Technology

Carl Zeiss SMT today officially put into service the 1,500th GEMINI®-class scanning electron microscope. The customer is the "Center for Non-Destructive Nano Evaluation nanoeva®" in Dresden, a joint facility of the Electronics Packaging Laboratory (German abbreviation: IAVT) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Non-Destructive Testing (IZFP-D) through its Dresden-based department.

Use of MRI Improves Diagnosis of Patients in a Vegetative State

A study led by researchers from Catalonia analyses the importance of the use of magnetic resonance imaging to improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients in a vegetative state. Until now these tests have not been performed in this type of patient. The results show activation of the auditory and linguistic areas of the brain despite the absence of observable behavioural responses.

Gallium Nitride (GaN), a man-made semiconductor used to make LEDs (light emitting diodes), emits brilliant light but uses very little electricity. Until now high production costs have made GaN lighting too expensive for wide spread use in homes and offices.
