Battery-Powered Tunable Laser Source Now Available From JDSU

JDSU today announced the industry's first handheld, battery-powered tunable laser source, the TLS-55 Smart Optical tester. Designed to support ROADM network test applications, the tester is fully compatible with the JDSU optical spectrum analyzer for the T-BERD/MTS-8000, which uses a new, highly accurate method for measuring the true optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) in Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) networks.

Korean Researchers Improved Color Stability of White OLED

Researchers in Korea claim to have improved the color stability of white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) over a wide luminance range. The team says that stable color was observed between 100 cd/m2 and 10,000 cd/m2 without any change of color index or spectrum shape.

NCAR Researchers Successfully Launched Solar Telescope to an Altitude of 120,000 Feet

In a landmark test flight, the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and a team of research partners this month successfully launched a solar telescope to an altitude of 120,000 feet, borne by a balloon larger than a Boeing 747 jumbo jet. New Laser Could Lead to Ultrahigh Resolution Microscopes for Imaging in Biology
