With this method, doctors around the world can easily, rapidly and reliably detect malaria, Ebola or HIV to name only a few.

UCHealth Eye Center Performs Bionic Eye Surgery to Restore Limited Sight to Blind Patient

The UCHealth Eye Center at University of Colorado Hospital has performed the first "bionic eye" procedure in the Rocky Mountain region, restoring limited sight to a woman who has been blind for almost two decades. Only two centers in the Western United States have implanted the device, which uses a small camera and microchip to stimulate the patient's optic nerve.

Cardiologists Treat Chronically Blocked Right Coronary Artery Using Virtual Reality Device

Virtual reality (VR) has potential to revolutionize some aspects of medicine and healthcare. Several medical specialties are already using it to train physicians and assist diagnosis and it also has potential for treatment. A group of cardiologists has now successfully used a VR device to guide the opening up (revascularization) of a chronically blocked right coronary artery. Their report is published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology.

Ten years ago, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and University Hospitals Case Medical Center began assembling a team of researchers and imaging infrastructure with the goal of enabling faculty to make new discoveries and translate these to patients.
