Research scientists at the University of Manchester have found that the colour of light has a major impact on the body clock of mice and other mammals such as humans.

On 20 December 2013, the 68th Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015). Novel HDR Image Capture Algorithm Adapts Itself to Cameras

Researchers from the Optics Department at the U. of Granada have developed a new algorithm for the capture of high dynamic range (HDR) images which reduces the time of capture or the level of noise in the resulting image.Beyond the field of photography, this new development can also be applied to artificial vision systems, medical imaging, control quality systems in assembly lines, satellite images, vigilance systems and assisted or automatic driving systems for vehicles, etc.

James Webb Space Telescope Deployable Tower Assembly Delivered to Northrop Grumman's Space Park Facility

Northrop Grumman Corporation reached another major milestone for NASA's James Webb Space Telescope this week, with the delivery of the Deployable Tower Assembly (DTA). Following successful ambient and thermal vacuum testing, the DTA was delivered to Northrop Grumman's Space Park facility, where the Webb Telescope is being assembled. The graphite DTA was designed, built and tested by Astro Aerospace, a Northrop Grumman company.

Novel Smartphone-Based Device for Accurate Molecular Diagnosis of Tumors

A device developed by Massachusetts General Hospital investigators may bring rapid, accurate molecular diagnosis of tumors and other diseases to locations lacking the latest medical technology. In their report appearing in PNAS Early Edition, the researchers describe a smartphone-based device that uses the kind of technology used to make holograms to collect detailed microscopic images for digital analysis of the molecular composition of cells and tissues.
