JA Solar and BP to Jointly Develop and Market Solar Photovoltaic Products

NNRI to Fully Fund Research for Inherited Retinal Diseases and Dry AMD

National Neurovision Research Institute (NNRI), and Resolvyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the leading resolvin therapeutics company, today announced a research collaboration whereby NNRI will fully fund preclinical studies to evaluate the potential of novel resolvin therapeutics for eye diseases of the retina that lack current treatments, specifically genetic retinal degenerative diseases and dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

First Observation of Two Resonant Dispersive Waves on Both Sides of the Emitting Soliton

A research team led by Fetah Benabid, University of Bath, has observed for the first time the simultaneous emission of two resonant dispersive waves by optical solitons (waves that maintain their shape while traveling at constant speeds). By designing a special fiber with an extremely small waveguiding feature located in the photonic crystal fiber cladding, the researchers were able to bring the theoretical prediction into the experimental demonstration, creating waves on both sides of the pump. This research appears in the current issue of the Optical Society's Optics Letters.

Multi-Junction Solar Cell Converting 39.7 Percent of the Sun's Energy to Electricity

Scientists of the Commission-financed project FULLSPECTRUM have developed photovoltaic (PV) multi-junction (MJ) solar cells which are able to convert 39.7 Percent of the energy of sun light into electricity. This is the highest percentage ever reached in Europe, according to researchers after their final workshop today in El Escorial, Spain.

A drug that is activated by light can be a quick, simple, and cheap treatment for tens of thousands of patients with skin cancer in Sweden alone. Researcher Leif Eriksson's team at Örebro University in Sweden has now received about SEK 4 million from government research financiers, the Swedish Research Council and Vinnova, to further develop and commercialize the method.

Carmanah Technologies Corporation (TSX: CMH) has received an order to supply solar-powered portable airfield lights for Bariven S.A. in Venezuela, a subsidiary of PDVSA. The order, valued at approximately $700,000, will provide the tools to equip Venezuela's Airport De Guiria with a stand-alone system of solar-powered LED (light emitting diode) aviation lights.
