Turning Sunlight into Liquid Fuels

For millions of years, green plants have employed photosynthesis to capture energy from sunlight and convert it into electrochemical energy. A goal of scientists has been to develop an artificial version of photosynthesis that can be used to produce liquid fuels from carbon dioxide and water.

austriamicrosystems (SWX:AMS), a leading global designer and manufacturer of analog ICs for communications, industrial, medical and automotive applications, expanded its comprehensive LED driver portfolio with the AS1116, an ultra small multiplexed LED driver. The AS1116 operates from a single 2.7V to 5.5V supply while requiring lowest supply current of 0.6mA during operation and 200nA in shutdown mode.

National Taiwan University Orders AIXTRON MOCVD Tool for White LEDs

AIXTRON AG today announced that in the fourth quarter 2008 the National Taiwan University (NTU), based in Taipei City, Taiwan, ordered one Close Coupled Showerhead 3x2" wafer Research Platform MOCVD system. It will be used for research and development on GaN and related materials and devices and it will be delivered in the third quarter 2009.

Report Examines Organic Photovoltaic Materials Markets from 2009 to 2016

NanoMarkets, a leading industry analyst firm based here, today announced the release of its newest report, "Organic Photovoltaic Materials Markets: 2009 - 2016". The report projects that sales of materials for both "pure" organic solar cells (OPV) and hybrid organic/inorganic dye-sensitized solar cells (DSC), are expected to reach almost $600 million ($US) by 2016.
