Intense Developed High Power Laser

Intense Ltd., the developer of next generation semiconductor lasers, recently announced the Intense-HPD Series 6100, 980nm high power single emitter laser diodes. The 6100 Series are very high brightness, single mode lasers with up to 200mW of kink-free power. They provide high beam quality with low astigmatism and a Gaussian far field.

The Series 6100 is based on the company's patented Quantum Well Intermixing technology, which increases the brightness and reliability of diode lasers while avoiding the usual problems associated with catastrophic optical mirror damage. Applications include print and imaging, point-to-point communications, medical imaging, optical storage, sensing and detection, and aerospace and defense.

The Intense-HPD Series 6100 laser diodes are available in wavelengths of 980nm ±5nm and 980nm ±10nm. The lasers are available in a selection of standard packages, including 5.6mm, 9mm, and C-mount. Monitor photo diodes are optionally available on the 5.6mm and 9mm packages. Other wavelengths are available on request.

"The strength of the Series 6100 high power laser diodes resides in the combination of Intense's patented Quantum Well Intermixing technology and Intense-HPD's state-of-the-art, high volume manufacturing processes," stated Scott Christie, CEO of Intense Ltd. "The end result is high performance lasers that can operate at high optical brightness with exceptional reliability, even in the face of constrained power."

Intense's patented Quantum Well Intermixing process increases the quantum well bandgap of a semiconductor laser in a controlled and highly precise manner so that active and passive sections can be created in the same laser cavity. Passive non-absorbing mirrors (NAMs) are created at the facet regions of the cavities to avoid catastrophic optical mirror damage (COMD), a problem frequently encountered in typical laser devices.
