Aurora to Display Optical Transport Solutions for Cable Operators at The Cable Show 2010

Aurora Networks, Inc., the only optical transport solution provider focused on delivering a cost-effective, optimized platform for next-generation cable services, will display its residential and commercial solutions for cable operators at the CableNET® technology showcase, part of The Cable Show 2010, taking place May 11-13 in Los Angeles.

Aurora Networks solutions at the show include RFoG/RFPON, cell tower backhaul, Fiber Deep and LcWDM® segmentation technologies.

The company’s RFoG/RFPON solutions enable cable operators to offer high-bandwidth data services, while providing an evolutionary path for the migration of RFoG networks to pure PON capabilities. The company’s end-to-end cell tower backhaul solution enables cable operators to use deployed fiber networks and nodes to support the backhaul needs of wireless operators.

Aurora Networks’ Fiber Deep and LcWDM technologies featured at CableNET® enable a cable operator to efficiently drive more bandwidth to subscribers. Fiber Deep reduces the number of homes served per node, eliminating the need for RF amplifiers. This reduces network power consumption as well as maintenance and operational costs, providing cable’s first truly green architecture. LcWDM technology from Aurora Networks is ideal for node segmentation and enables cable operators to dramatically increase network capacity without requiring the deployment of additional fiber in their networks.

The CableNET® display area is in the main exhibit hall at The Cable Show 2010, located inside the Los Angeles Convention Center. CableNET® is co-sponsored by CableLabs® and the National Cable and Telecommunications Association as an exhibit within an exhibit where technology companies have an opportunity to showcase their innovative solutions.

What Aurora Networks Says

"Cable operators face a growing need to increase network capacity for the delivery of sophisticated services to both residential and commercial subscribers, and Aurora Networks provides a complete suite of solutions that enable operators to cost-effectively address these demands," said John Dahlquist, vice president of marketing, Aurora Networks. "At CableNET®, we will show cable operators how they can provide commercial and residential customers the next-generation of services through a single, unified network."

Aurora Networks Solutions at CableNET®

  • RFoG and RFPON solutions from Aurora Networks enable cable operators to take advantage of FTTH architectures, incorporating unique components to overcome the deployment limitations associated with traditional RFoG approaches. By incorporating Aurora Networks’ Node PON™ module with RFoG VHub™ technology, operators can offer reliable, high-bandwidth services to customers. This approach also enables cable operators to migrate an RFoG network to pure PON capabilities.
  • Cell tower backhaul technology from Aurora Networks features the company’s GT3410A T1/E1 Access Module, providing Ethernet-based circuit emulation that enables the delivery of TDM traffic over high-capacity Ethernet fiber. The solution is Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) certified and allows cable operators to leverage their installed base of nodes and fiber networks to provide backhaul support for cell towers, providing another revenue-generating opportunity.
  • Fiber Deep from Aurora Networks reduces the number of homes served per node from an average of 500 to 2,000 typically found in a traditional HFC network to about 100. Pushing fiber deeper into the network eliminates the need for RF amplifiers, which results in the elimination of about 70 percent of actives found in a cable network and reduces power costs by as much as 50 percent. That reduction in energy consumption makes Fiber Deep one of cable’s top environmentally-friendly technologies. Fiber Deep also helps cable operators reduce operational and maintenance costs by as much as 65 percent.
  • LcWDM technology enables cable operators to quadruple narrowcast capacity without the need for fiber construction. When combined with Aurora Networks’ CWDM digital upstream technology, LcWDM provides full node segmentation on a single fiber. LcWDM is an ideal solution for a cable operator with a plant capacity between 750 and 1,000 MHz and nodes supporting less than 500 homes passed.
